Word of the Week

I have decided that I want to broaden my vocabulary (English and Afrikaans) and therefore from now on, I will post a new word that I have learnt (I am planning to get to know the dictionary a little bit better) and it's meaning on my  blog:)

Since this is my first week back at work and the old people started entertaining me from the moment I stepped back in to their world, I've decided to share a new word from one of my patients.  His name is John.

New word:

Ridicseality

From what I could gather, the meaning of this word is:  Something between ridiculous and reality

I thought this is a nice contamination and can be used in various situations.  See if you find an opportunity this week to use my new-found word in a conversation.

*I also decided to add a picture of the sketch he made of himself and also of me.  Pretend that you don't see his name in the pic.  It might make issues for me regarding confidentiality :)

Men talk more than Women

Mrs N:  "I have met this funny old man in my ward and befriended him" (She told me this the day before)
OT:  "That's nice Mrs N"
Mrs N:  "He has been chasing after me for years"  (He moved in last week)
OT:  "What are you doing about it?"
Mrs N:  Well, I try to do nothing at the moment.  I just listen to him, he really needs to talk to someone"
OT:  "That is nice of you"
Mrs N:  "I think men need to talk more than women"
OT:  "Why do you think so Mrs N?" (genuinely interested in this theory)
Mrs N:  "Well, if you take this man for instance;  he likes to talk to me and he's got a big face and his name is Bob"
OT:  "Oh, I see. That makes a lot of sense"

My old people love me

My old people are so cute.  They are super excited that I am getting married.  It is almost bigger than the Royal Wedding earlier this year.

I got cards and bubble bath and a big bunch of flowers and even a card from my  Dementia group...(so, the volunteers might have helped a lot with this one, but still...)

My favourite message in my card is from my stalker patient (who has also recently been stalking and proposing to my mom).

"You must kick him in the butt"
